Kid Lit Programme - Julie Sykes

7th March 2019
Venue: Great Hall, Oundle
Time: 1.30pm

(Recommended for Year 2)

As this is WORLD BOOK DAY you are welcome to come dressed as your favourite animal, can’t wait to see all your costumes. Julie will be giving a talk called Carrots, Cake and Corn. Using a PowerPoint presentation, and with some audience participation, she will talk about how she came to writing books, with tips for writing great stories, and how an idea ends up as a book. She will end with a question and answer session (with postcards as an incentive!) The presentation will focus on her current series of books Unicorn Academy with a nod to other books.

Julie also writes as Skye Waters and Summer Waters.

Julie Sykes was born in Kingston upon Thames but then moved to Australia with her family. They returned when Julie was five and she was educated in Surrey, studying at Kingston University for a BSc followed by a PGCE. Julie taught in schools for seven years before leaving to become a full-time author and Mum. Julie has written for children of all ages for many years. Her talents range from picture books to mass-market series to stand-alone stories. She is a ghostwriter and a writer under her own name. Published by almost every UK publishing house, she has also enjoyed success in the US and been involved in many of the UK’s most successful mass-market series.
