Following the success of our books by Ali Smith and Haruki Murakami, our newest fine press edition is a short story by William Trevor. Acknowledged as an unequalled master of the narrative form, Trevor is best known as a writer who draws upon the Irish landscape and culture, past and present. With its perfect cadence and precise observations, Men of Ireland is a nuanced tale of societal change, personal failure and disappointed lives. A novelist as well as a short story writer, he has won the Whitbread Novel Award twice, and also the Whitbread Book of the Year, while his short stories have won the prestigious O. Henry Award three times. He was awarded an honorary CBE in 1977 for his services to literature, and was made a Companion of Literature in 1994. This edition of 120 copies has been designed and printed by Sebastian Carter at the Rampant Lions Press. It was typeset by Speedpools, Edinburgh, in Monotype Ehrhardt, letterpress printed on Somerset mould-made paper and bound by the Fine Book Bindery, Irthlingborough. The Oundle Festival device and the frontispiece were engraved on wood by Geraldine Waddington, and printed from the wood blocks.
